My debt is to the craftsmen who make our furniture. They are Thos. Moser – not me, them. – Tom Moser

Many years ago, I was fortunate to be given a three-month Artist in Residence in Bermuda. I left a New England winter and arrived in a Bermuda Spring! I quickly became friends with another painter there who invited me to join her Sunday plein air group which anyone may join no matter the length of your stay. She kindly picked me up with all my art supplies in her tiny car and we’d drive to beautiful destinations. We’d paint for several hours and then afterward, we’d have a critique. It was often quite intense.

Joint IconI made friends with other artists and we would find places to paint in a more relaxed manner. I got to know my way around the island pretty well because of these excursions. I found the strong sun demanding a different palette, and being more alone than usual also challenging. I feel that I flourished there, and my paintings became more colorful due to the new surroundings. By the end of those three months, I had thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and feel I learned so much. And now, I find that I still use some of those great colors that became mainstays in Bermuda.
