About our Finish 

We believe that the beauty and integrity of our furniture is only revealed when we celebrate the true nature of the material – for this reason, we use only the finest North American hardwoods available.  We also steer clear of stains, toner, bleach, or paints that artificially color the wood.  

Every piece of Thos. Moser is hand-finished and formulated to allow air and sunlight to naturally color the wood with a subtlety unmatched by anything from a can. After being carefully hand sanded, each piece receives up to two coats of a proprietary oil blend that penetrates the wood revealing unique and intrinsic grain patterns. The oil gives the furniture a tactile and visceral appeal, making it hard to pass a piece without running a hand across it.  

A day’s drying time is allowed and then the piece is lightly sanded and prepped for its protective coating.  

Catalyzed Lacquer is sprayed giving the piece a subtle and smooth sheen adding protection that does not detract from the furniture’s natural beauty.   

Why Lacquer? 

When creating furniture of truly lasting value, each element bears responsibility for the success or failure of the whole. We put considerable thought into the wood used for our designs and the joinery used to construct it and equal emphasis is also placed on the finish.  

Once cured, Catalyzed Lacquer provides the piece with a durable protective barrier that limits damage and discoloration from liquids, solvents, and household chemicals. In addition, catalyzed lacquer will not yellow or cloud over time, and is maintenance-free.  Just dust with a damp cloth or clean with mild soap as needed. 

Alternative Finishes 

Although catalyzed lacquer is the optimal finish in most residential applications, upon request as a custom order, alternative finishes such as oil and wax are available.
